A 17-year-old footballer from Adelaide’s north-east is fighting for life in hospital after suffering from a sudden cardiac arrest during a match.

Tyler Bennett remains in Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition after he collapsed unexpectedly while playing in an under-18s game for Tea Tree Gully yesterday.

Witnesses say he was unconscious for several minutes before trainers were able to revive him using a defibrillator that was at the ground.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene with the teen taken to hospital where doctors confirmed he suffered cardiac arrest.

Tyler’s parents have thanked everyone who helped their son and posted an update online.

“He is in ICU at Royal Adelaide Hospital and he is currently in an induced coma due to having a cardiac arrest on the field,” the post read.

“He has had a CT scan clearing him of any injury but now the waiting game happens for at least the next 24 hours before they start taking him off the drugs.”

The league is also providing support and organizing counselling for other players and officials who were at the grounds.
